What do I want to change?

I want to change, or at least try to change, the relationship between people and technology, both hardware and software. Recently, I do not think technology itself has declined in quality; in fact, advancements across many fields have been remarkable. Rather, it seems that the relationship between technology and people has deteriorated.

The constant pressure to monetize human attention has led, for example, social networks and entertainment platforms to focus almost exclusively on capturing and exploiting as much of people’s attention as possible. In the case of hardware, there is often a push to deliver the latest flashy and unnecessary innovations, often aimed at helping users signal status or conform to specific trends, instead of creating products that are durable, meaningful, and capable of generating long-term value.

I am not naive; I understand that companies need to generate profit. However, I believe it is both possible and necessary to design technologies, as well as the business models around them, in ways that create mutual benefit for people and for the companies that serve them.
